Making Decisions


Scenario: Emma has just made a neat new friend.  They go to town on Friday night and Emma notices that her new friend is shoplifting.  Her friend tells her that everyone does it and she should do it too unless she’s wimp.  
What would Emma do?


A. List Options:
1. Help her shoplift the shop.

2. Stay there and watch her shoplift.

3.Turn around and walk away from her and don’t talk to her.


B. Say what is right or wrong about each option.
Option 1: This is wrong because you’re helping her to steal things from the shop.
Option 2: This is wrong because she might be accused for her friend’s bad doings.
Option 3: This is right because she is not helping her or having the risk of getting caught because of her.


C.  Say what would be the consequences of each option for everyone concerned.
1.You might get caught for stealing.

2.You will be accused for her actions.

3.Is that she will not be your friend.


D. Say what values you think lie behind each option and tick those that reflect gospel values -  the values of Jesus.

I would have chosen Option 3: Turn around and walk away from her and don’t talk to her, because she avoiding the risk of getting caught because of her actions.
