Immortality

Walht:
Explain what it means that the soul is immortal.

Mortal:
Immortal:
This word represents a physical entity limit of life and the eventual death and it can't continue on forever.
This word represents something that is everlasting and it will never die as it is believed to be like our souls after our physical bodies die.

My visual representation of immortality is when a Star Wars spaceship approaches light speed.

Today we were talking about what is the difference between mortality and immortality. From this, my
understanding of mortality is a physical entity that lives and dies after they’ve reached their limit of life and immortality is that something that is everlasting and lives forever.

The Gift of Life

Walht:
Identify how the soul is created by Te Atua.

The Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life. Genesis 2:7

At the moment of their conception
God begins a relationship with each person.
A person’s soul
Permeates who the whole person is.
God breathes life into
A person’s soul which will never die.
The soul is the gift
By which people are connected to God.
Each person is a
Unique and sacred work of art created by God.
Parents give the gift of the body.
But God creates the soul that gives life to a person.
Personal Statement:
God breathed life into me and and gave me a soul which is everlasting.

End of Term 3 Technicraft!

Our topic this term was Computer programming and it was interesting! On the last day Technicraft we were able to do anything we want on either code.org or Scratch, 2 great coding websites. Coding something that configures an animation to happen or a event to take place. It can also allow players to control and create avatars or sprites.

So we were given a challenge on Scratch and it was to make a game about fighting rheumatic fever. This is what I made!

Family Dinner For Sopee From Cambodia!

After analysing the second poster image below, each member of our team responded to the questions or statements on the poster. These were recorded on ‘post it’ notes.
The task involved comparing and contrasting similarities and differences.

Screenshot 2017-08-16 at 2.21.09 PM.png
Relevant Notes on the poster:
  • Eating on the ground.
  • Limited silverware.
  • Dark area.
  • Small amount of food.
  • Rice.
  • Vegetables.
  • Eating together.

Synthesis:
Sopee’s family dinner are very different from our modern methods of eating, although they do have a few similarities to how our family dinners function. We get our food from the supermarket but they have to go into the wild and get their own food. They eat food on the floor due to a lack of furniture and they eat in the dark because of the insufficiency of light sources. We do both eat rice and vegetables on a regular basis also using our hands to eat, as it is customary in our cultures.

Synthesis:

The lives of the rural people in Papua New Guinea are very different to our lives today, they are barely surviving and they are struggling without the use of electricity. We live in neighbourhoods and aren’t isolated from others but they are however living under harsh conditions away from civilisation. They live rural lives with no internet and a lack of clothes. Modern houses and advanced technology has guided us to live a normal and ordinary life and afford food. Although we don’t share many similarities, we both do have food to eat and a roof over our heads. We both work to survive and we both can at least afford clothes to wear.

The Assumption of Mary!

Walht: Understand the significance of the Assumption of Mary.

Sources:

The Assumption of Mary (Loyola Press):
One glance at a daily newspaper or a television news show will tell you that some people do not value human life. But this is not news. During the Holocaust of World War II, millions of people were tortured and killed. This terrible tragedy led many people to wonder about human life. How valuable is a single human life? How valuable are the lives of the elderly, the unborn, the terminally ill? Are their lives worth as much as those of people who are healthy and active, working, and raising families?
God creates human life and gives it value. And Jesus gave his life on the cross to redeem each individual human person. By doing this, Jesus said, “Your life is worth my dying to save you.” Through his own Resurrection, Jesus showed us the glory of our resurrection and of our living in the Holy Spirit. Jesus promised that the body and soul of a person, separated at death, will be joined together again in glory at the Last Judgment. The person will be whole for all eternity.
The feast of Mary’s Assumption is a preview of what our lives will be. At the end of her earthly life, Mary was assumed, or taken up, into heaven body and soul. She did not have to wait for the end of the world, as we do. God granted her this special privilege because of her sinlessness and her fullness of grace.
The Church has always believed in Mary’s assumption into heaven. But on November 1, 1950, Pope Pius XII focused the attention of the whole world on the Assumption of Mary as a dogma and mystery of our faith. This mystery shows us that God wants every human person, body and soul, to be in glory forever, just as Mary is now. This dogma shows how important every single human life is. Pope Pius XII hoped that by thinking about Mary’s Assumption, people all over the world would develop a deeper respect for their own lives and their own bodies. He also hoped that people would grow in respect for the lives of others.

The Assumption of Mary (Prayer):
Father in heaven,
all creation rightly gives you praise,
for all life and all holiness come from you.
In the plan of your wisdom
she who bore the Christ in her womb
was raised body and soul in glory to be with him in heaven.
May we follow her example in reflecting your holiness
and join in her hymn of endless love and praise.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

The Holidays!

Disclaimer:

SPOILERS FOR THE MOVIE:  SPIDER-MAN HOMECOMING!!!

One boring and featureless day, I was unhappy with how every event that had happened. It was unexciting and flat. Just as the day couldn’t get any more colourless… all of a sudden, my day lit up! It was the day when the newest movie ‘Spider-Man Homecoming’ released in cinemas! I just had to watch it! Although we had to fight through the traffic on the motorway, we struggled and strived, but we eventually got to Events Cinema in Manukau right on time that the movie was making its appearance.

I really enjoyed how the directors used Tom Holland’s (aka Spider-Man’s) screen time, and how they put his scenes in the correct place so that the story didn’t get too confusing for viewers. I also admired the performance and role of Michael Keaton as the villain, Vulture. He was a great portrayal to the one in the comics. I really liked that his message was that the rich are too selfish and unthoughtful about the non wealthy. Him and his team of engineers salvaged and weaponized alien technology to sabotage Tony Stark’s airplane and destroy the shipment.

A really important person to Peter Parker is Liz Allen, she is the first love interest of Peter Parker during his sophomore year in high school. Liz Allen was played by the actress Laura Harrier and she did a great job at portraying Liz Allen from the comics. Tony Stark (aka Iron Man) is the designer and creator of the high tech suit that Spider-Man wears for the majority of the movie, but was eventually taken away towards the end of the film due to Peter Parker’s irresponsible and reckless behaviour with the suit. The suit contained, artificial intelligence, adjustable eye lenses, web wings, web fluid shooters and 576 different web shooter combinations.

Overall I rate the movie a 9/10 , the directors placed the scenes in the perfect place and the cast that was chosen for the movie were amazing. Although it had a few confusing sections throughout the movie but it was still a great movie! 😁

Bubble Reflection!

Today at Technicraft we did an experiment involving the reflection and colours of the bubbles before they finally dehydrate and evaporate. This is how you do it…!

Ingredients and tools:
  • Plastic Container
  • Straw
  • A flat surface (table)
  • Glycerine
  • Detergent
  • Water

Method (You need sunshine on the table):
  • Make a solution consisting of glycerine, detergent and water.
  • Pour that solution into the plastic container.
  • Use your hand and dip it into the solution and wipe it onto your table.
  • Start blowing bubbles one at a time and observe the pattern of colours that appear.

Explanation:
When the bubble is blown the bubble starts showing a series of colours in this colour pattern red, blue, light blue/green, violet, yellow and clear transparent before it finally dehydrates and evaporates. This colour sequence indicates the approximated time the bubble is going to dehydrate and evaporate.

Technicraft - Fair Test!

Image result for colorful bubble
This Thursday at Technicraft we were doing a fair test with different types of bubbles made from different solutions! This is how to do it…

Ingredients and Equipment:
  1. 500ml water
  2. 100ml detergent
  3. 10ml glucose
  4. 10ml glycerine
  5. 10ml sugar
  6. 10ml salt
  7. Beaker
  8. 5 plastic cups
  9. 5 straws
  10. Labels on each cup

Method:
  1. Label each individual cup with an individual substance: detergent, glucose, sugar, salt and glycerine.
  2. Put one straw in each cup.
  3. Add 20 ml detergent in each cup.
  4. Add 100 ml water in each cup.
  5. Add 10 ml of each substance labelled on the cups.
  6. Wet a flat surface.
  7. Carefully making sure you don’t mix them you blow a bubble with each different solution.
  8. Blow the bubbles one by one and do 3 tests on each solution.
  9. See which one lasts longer.

Hypothesis:
I think that the glycerine will last the longest because it is heavier than the other substances providing it more protection for the bubble.

1st Place: Glycerine
2nd Place: Glucose
3rd Place: Sugar
4th Place: Detergent
5th Place: Salt

Explanation:
The glycerine bubble lasted the longest because it was more heavy, syrupy and viscous than the other substances. Since the glycerine was heavy it strengthened and supported the detergent making the dehydration and evaporation process delay.

The salt bubble didn’t last very long. It lasted less than a second before it dehydrated and evaporated. This is because when salt is applied to detergent the salt’s sodium turns the water into hard water. When the hard water comes in contact with detergent the hard water lessens the effectiveness of the detergent speeding up the dehydration and evaporation process.
